Seaforth Oval will be home to a new $434,000 mountain bike jump park after the adoption of a management plan that sets out improvements for the reserve.

Plan Adopted

The Seaforth Oval Reserve Plan of Management has been adopted, confirming support for an intermediate-to-advanced level bike jump park on Crown land at the south-eastern side of the oval, near Wakehurst Parkway. The decision followed two rounds of consultation, including mid-2023 community feedback and a public exhibition earlier this year.

A total of 116 submissions were received during the final exhibition stage, with many backing the proposal. Residents and riders said the park would help fill a gap in advanced facilities in the southern Northern Beaches while providing a safe place to ride.

Funding And Location

The new bike park, costing an estimated $434,000 funded by developer contributions, is set to rise at Seaforth Oval. Already home to football, cricket, basketball, and playgrounds, the oval was chosen as the most suitable site after a detailed review of options.

Once complete, the park will expand the area’s riding network, sitting alongside popular spots like Bare Creek in Belrose and The Grove pump track in Seaforth. Riders will also be able to connect with existing venues at JJ Melbourne Hills Reserve in Terrey Hills and Wyatt Avenue in Belrose.

Feedback And Concerns

Some residents expressed concerns about noise, parking congestion, and possible vandalism, especially on busy game days when the oval is already in use. However, Council’s report noted the bike park would bring social, physical, and community benefits.

Riders also suggested design features such as tabletop jumps, berms, wooden lips, and warm-up areas. These ideas, along with facilities like bike washing and maintenance, will be considered in the detailed design process.

Next Steps

With the management plan now adopted, a working group of riders and club representatives will be formed to help shape the park’s design. A volunteer program will also support ongoing maintenance.

The broader plan also includes upgrades to other community facilities at Seaforth Oval, including the basketball court, playground and community centre. The bike park proposal will now move into design and further assessment before construction can begin.
